- Jam Cherry and almond is a classic combination but peach, apricot and apple also pair nicely with almonds. Try peach or apricot preserves or apple butter instead of the cherry jam for a twist on the classic flavor combo.
- Almond Pastry If you love almond flavor, skip the cherry and add 1 cup of powdered sugar to the cream cheese instead of 1/2 cup. Without the cherries, the almond flavors really pop!
- Pastry Pizza To simplify this recipe even more, roll out the pizza dough and bake it for 8 minutes at 400 degrees. Layer the cream cheese mixture and cherries on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Remove pastry pizza from the oven and drizzle the almond glaze on top.
Make this shortcut cherry almond breakfast pastry gluten-free
I make this pastry gluten-free by using a premade gluten-free pizza dough. Check the ingredients to make sure it doesn’t have pizza seasonings in it. My favorite is Etalia Nudo. I bake it completely according to the directions on the back of the box. Once it’s baked, I spread the cream cheese mixture on it and top it with the cherry jam and a drizzle of the almond glaze. Since the pizza crust is already warm, it melts the cream cheese nicely without having to pop it back into the oven.
