Prefer the instant pot?
If you’d prefer to use your instant pot to prepare this Gluten Free Crock Pot Orange Beef, start by following the same process in order to prepare the sauce. Place the meat into the instant pot and cover it with the sauce. Tighten the lid and set your pressure cooker to 15 minutes. Once the timer ends, vent your instant pot. Remove about a cup of the sauce and mix it with a tablespoons of corn starch using a whisk. Add the sauce and corn starch mixture back into the instant pot. Set to saute and allow it to cook for 2-4 minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken.
Veggie Options
When I’ve ordered Orange Beef in Asian restaurants, it’s typically served with a few green onions. I prefer to add substantial veggies into my homemade versions of Asian dishes because when veggies are smothered in that flavorful Asian sauce, my kids can’t resist them. Here are a few that I recommend for this dish.
- Steamed broccoli
- Steamed shredded carrots – You can buy a bag of shredded carrots at the grocery store to save time. Add them to the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cook time.
- Sliced bell peppers – Add them to the slow cooker during the last hour of cook time.
- Green onions, sliced. Simply throw them into the dish raw. They give the dish an onion kick and a little crunch. Adding both thinly sliced green bell peppers and green onions is a tasty combination.
What’s in Gluten Free Crock Pot Orange Beef?
- Flank steak or skirt steak – You’ll want to decrease the cook time a bit if you use skirt steak as it’s a thinner cut.
- Soy Sauce – To make this dish gluten-free, use Tamari sauce which can be found in the same section of the grocery store as the soy sauce.
- Water
- Orange marmalade
- Fresh garlic
- Cornstarch
- Frozen broccoli prepared according to the package directions. Steamed fresh broccoli is also delicious in this recipe.
- White or brown rice
