The combination of buffalo wing sauce and blue cheese is pure magic. That heat paired with a creamy dressing to tone it down a bit while still delivering big flavor…can’t get enough! But sometimes we want that delicious flavor without messy, sticky, chicken wings. Cue Vegetarian Buffalo Tots…
Big hot wing flavor…no hot mess
These gluten-free Vegetarian Buffalo tots come together in just about 30 minutes…with only 5-10 minutes of prep time and 25 minutes in the oven. I combined the wing sauce with the blue cheese dressing, added a little cheese for flavor and texture, smothered the crispy tots, topped with a little extra cheese and a few fresh ingredients for even MORE fresh flavor. The results…so good you won’t miss the chicken one bit! Plus, you can eat them with a fork so there’s no mess!
Crispy…not soggy
I crisp the tots in the oven at 425 degrees before smothering with the sauce and cheese topping, to ensure maximum crunch. Make sure the tots are fully cooked and crispy before adding toppings to avoid the dreaded soggy tots. Once they’re out of the oven, I add a little fresh blue cheese crumble for an incredible flavor and thinly sliced green onion sprinkled on top for a fresh, crisp crunch.
A variation of buffalo tots for those who prefer ranch
Blue cheese has a big, unique taste so I understand that it’s not for everyone. It’s a hard sell for my kids. The good news is that this recipe can be made with ranch dressing. When I’m making Vegetarian Buffalo Tots for my kids, I swap the blue cheese dressing for ranch dressing. Instead of using fresh blue cheese and green onions on top, I use finely diced celery and carrots.

These look fantastic but won’t they get soggy?
Great question. As long as you bake the tots for the entire recommended time, pour the sauce and cheese on top and pop right back into the oven at 425 degrees, they’ll stay nice and crunchy!
